Grupo Events' Cardboard Boat Challenge has your group building and racing fully functional boats made entirely from cardboard, packing tape, and props. The event generates results with any group — from senior executives to Olympic athletes — and the on-water race finale is guaranteed to create unforgettable memories.
During the cardboard boat build, teams must deal with several real-world curve balls that are common in the workplace — such as project modifications, staff changes, or material shortages. The facilitator highlights teachable moments and relates them directly to the experience at hand.
As it is unlikely there are any cardboard boat building experts in the room, leadership naturally emerges as people express ideas and become inspired by the project. The event is sure to generate results with any group and the memories from the on-water race finale will be shared for years to come.
Your Lead Facilitator provides a brief orientation explaining the Cardboard Boat Challenge rules. Teams of 6–8 are formed and each team selects and negotiates for their building materials.
Teams construct a boat from cardboard, packing tape, and craft supplies — navigating real-world curve balls including material shortages, project modifications, and team dynamics throughout the build.
Completed boats are evaluated for presentation, design, marketing, and functionality. At least one team member then climbs in for the on-water navigational challenge. The most seaworthy boat wins!
